The Pasadena Art Show 2016

We are delighted to invite artists from Claremont and surrounding Pomona Valley region to submit work for the Claremont Art Show 2018, a juried group exhibit presented in cooperation with Art in the Arthouse and hosted at Laemmle’s Claremont 5 theater.

Based on our success with the Pasadena Art Show in the Laemmle Playhouse 7, we are excited to expand this unique opportunity for emerging artists in the Pomona Valley region.

In the Pasadena Art Show 2017, 50% of the artwork displayed sold and we had a fabulous opening featuring an incredible theater presentation presided over by curator Joshua Elias.

In addition, many artists were able to subsequently build on their relationship with Laemmle and were invited to present their work in other Art in the Arthouse exhibits.

The Claremont Art Show is produced by artist, author and local impresario, Lynn Chang.  The multi-faceted Chang has enlisted Laemmle Theatres and specifically its Art in the Arthouse program to act as venue and host for the now annual exhibit in Pasadena expanding to Claremont in 2017 and continuing this year in 2018.

Art in the Arthouse arose in early 2014 at the behest of Laemmle president Greg Laemmle.  Seeing how the advent of digital movie posters opened up previously-used real estate on his theater walls (where printed posters once roamed), Laemmle seized the opportunity to engage the fine arts community and bring quality works to the movie-going public.

With visionary input from curator Joshua Elias, Art in the Arthouse has bridged the worlds of fine art and fine cinema through over 20 exhibits, featuring mostly local and emerging talent.

The Claremont Art Show’s alliance with Laemmle and Art in the Arthouse gives our artist-participants the ability to showcase their work and perspective to a discriminating, culturally-literate audience within a unique context and space … one that is decidedly more trafficked than a typical gallery. It’s a rare opportunity, to say the least.

Artwork submitted for inclusion to the Claremont Art Show must be in a good condition and ready to install. And it must be able to be hung on a wall. We do not accept sculpture or installation pieces at this time; outside of that, all artistic genres are welcome, including photography.

Artwork is limited to 2D and figurative, landscape or abstract art is all welcome.

The entry fee is $35 for the first piece and $10 per additional pieces (up to three total).  All accepted works will be available for sale to the public, with partial proceeds benefiting the Laemmle Charitable Foundation.  The foundation, in turn, supports the inspired work of L.A. based non-profits addressing issues such as poverty, homelessness, and the environment.
